I thought you might enjoy seeing a project I did a few years back.  When I owned a little boutique in downtown Lafayette, the Art Museum put together a fund raiser for themselves and Casa for kids.  They approached artist who would volunteer their time and talents in painting these large fiberglass frogs.  Once done they were displayed up and down Main St in the downtown area…..then they were auctioned off.  I’m proud to say that my Tropical Toad got one of the highest bids that evening!

Frog-Back Frog-Front frog-side-2 Frog-side-3 Frog-SideIt was really quite the honor to be able to participate in this fund raiser.  I know this became really popular with other cities because in our travels I have seen other animals painted and put on display.  How bout any of you?  Have you seen or participated in painting one of these animals….I’d love if you would share!

  1. Debbie, this is so cool, great job on the frog. and a wonderful idea for fundraising. I might have to steal this idea for our local art guild. We are always looking for a fun fundraiser.

    1. Thanks Sue. I do know when you look into this that the statues are a bit expensive. So our Art Museum paired each artist with at least one sponsor to cover the cost of the statue. It worked really well and was great PR for both the sponsor and the artist. I actually booked several jobs from folks seeing my frog.

  2. Up here in the Twin Cities, we had a series of Peanuts characters (Charles Schulz was originally from Minnesota) and Twins players statues done up that way. Many are still visible around town.

  3. Your Tropi-Toad is wonderful. I’ve never participated in one of these fundraisers, although there have been some in my area and I always look forward to them. One year, several of my students painted fire hydrants in fanciful modes as a fundraiser. Now, that was quite a sight!
