Painting on Buster…..almost done…almost there….just a little more…..

Buster 7I will admit, painting has been a struggle the past few days.  It has done nothing but rain here.  I can handle a few dreary and grey days, but now it is just starting to be a bit depressing.  Also I struggle with lighting here in the fifth wheel.  I do have an Ott-Lite which does help, but there is nothing like natural light for color and detail!  So….come on sunshine….shine on me.  I hear you may be coming back on the weekend!

Oh well, back to Buster.  I did a little work under that right eye, just seemed a bit dark so I lighten the area a bit.  The nose….I love the nose…maybe a little more highlight but that will come at the very end.  I’m also happy with the mouth shape and position.  The beard is ready for detail, but I decided to block in the collar and the body and wait for a little sunshine to light my way on the beard!

  1. I just love seeing Buster come to life! I think I’ve missed the last post or two about this painting, so seeing him like this was such a joyous surprise.

I love my Ott lights, but they’re really nothing like true light, even though they’re fabulous. I just recently moved my painting table to a place just beneath a window with north light, and the difference is amazing. Now I combine the north light and the Ott lights, and I am in total lighting heaven. I managed to find some LED Otts online — and I *love* them!

    1. That’s exactly what I do Harmony…use both sunlight and the ott light! I have my eye on a floor lamp style ott light, but I’ll have to look into those LED otts! Thanks

  2. Nothing like sunshine to lighten everything up. So glad it finally made an appearance! Buster is fabulous – and that nose! Oh my, I do believe it’s a kiss magnet. 🙂

    1. Thank you Amy…..I am into realism….I love it when people reach out and touch my paintings. That is what I strive for…I want you to feel invited in, for a closer look, to touch to feel….to smile!

  3. Yay that the sun came out for you Debbie! Have to say the sun came out for me too the minute I cast my eyes on little Buster. He is an absolute gem. To my eyes he is done. He is here. He is complete. That little nose is just begging out for the placement of a treat. Have to say I am excited to see how you next tweak him.

    1. Thanks Kelly….what a cute idea….”treat to nose”! I still have work to do and I think you will see a difference next time I post!

  4. I love the whole thing…from what I see he looks fabulous!! I’m also in agreement with you……I NEED SOME SUNSHINE too. Could you hear me yelling that?? LOL I’ve reached my limit of rainy days. I love them, but not days and days and days of them, much less, all in a row. My thought is 1″ a week I’m good to go, and everything grows. 🙂

    1. Thank you Vickie….sounds like your heart was touched by a little “terrier” magic! There such scrappy little bundles of joy!

  5. I, too, love the nose. And those ears – they just beg to be scritched a bit. Hoping the sun begins to shine for you. I, too, am partial to natural light.
