We have arrived at our winter destination…..Yuma, AZ. So nice to be with all our Yuma friends once again.
This past week has been a busy one. Settling in and setting up. Since we will be here in Yuma for about 5 months, we tend to ‘spread out’ a little bit. We have a nice concrete patio so I even buy a few flowers to put about. Plus the humming birds are everywhere, so I will also put out a feeder for them. Another big plus, is DSL internet much faster and more reliable than our Verizon card (which we put into suspension while here).
And that is where this story begins…..we had the modem for the DSL sitting on top of our desk. I just hate seeing the wires and blinking lights all the time so we decided to move it beneath the desk with the rest of the electronics. Hubby was relaxing in his easy chair, computer in lap when I made this decision. Sooo I batted my big brown eyes at him and said, “Sweetie pie I’m going to unplug the modem and move it so you will have a small disruption in you service…OK?”. He nods and I unplug and move it below, but just before I re-plug a thought jumps into my head. “Sweetie pie…do you know what we did with that biz card about the window awnings?”. “Yes, have it right here.” I take the card and realize that I have yet to confirm with our neighbors that this is indeed the guy who installed their window awnings. OFF I go….out the door and down the street…totally forgetting about the plugging in of the modem. I mean the cabinet doors are wide open, wires are hanging out….but me, I’m oblivious….I have a new mission now! Ha! Upon my return (30 minutes later), the cabinet doors are still open, wires exposed and I realize what I had ‘forgotten’ to do. I looked at my hubby and said, “Sweetie pie, I’m so sorry. How on earth did I forget about this!” His response, “Welcome to my world!”
Ah yes….’his world’…
the world that contains that dizzy, creative nut who can’t seem to stay ‘on task’ unless there is a paint brush in her hand. Then he best just keep walking, because she won’t hear a word he says.
the world where ‘ideas’ abound, but just as he figures out exactly what it is she wants….she changes it
the world where….things continually ‘disappear’ because she decided they would be better off living ‘here’ rather then ‘there’…but, oh yeah, forgot to mention that to him
the world where….new words and names blossom because she can’t pronounce the ‘actual’ name or word. So she simply invents one she can!
the world where….Miss Scarlet lives….her southern gal alter ego…..
and last….but not least….the world where singing and dancing can occur at any moment in the day or night…..
Myself….I think that is a pretty good world to live in. Never a dull moment and as Miss Scarlet says….
“Life is just to dang short not to go at it like a Rooster in a hen house…y’all!”
I like your world, and your husband must love it, too, or like Amy said, he would have plugged the internet back in. Instead he enjoyed a bit of unexpected unplugged time 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Tat! Yes, he is a pretty easy going guy. I”m lucky to have found him!
Oh how I can relate. Handyman just remarked about this very same thing yesterday. His world where I kind of just move along at my own frequency as he puts it. Where he doesn’t quite know if I’m up, down, sideways or backwards needing to see where it is that I’ll land in that moment. 🙂 So glad it’s not just me.
Happy sun basking to you!! Enjoy the warmth and fun of it all. 🙂
I know what ya mean..Kelli. It is nice to know there are others out there ‘cut from the same creative cloth’ so to speak!
Welcome back to Yuma! A life full of hummingbirds and newly planted plants sounds wonderful. It is rather chilly here at the moment and the hummingbirds are gone!
Smiling at the modem story. Heck, you focus when you’re totally absorbed in your creativity, right? Love that.
Thanks Kelly…..loving the warm sunshine here!
Oh, I am so glad to know I am not the only one who lives this way. I can be distracted by the tiniest of thought and sometimes never return to the original task at hand. Your husband is a dear to be so accepting and supportive 🙂
Thanks Michele…..Most of the time he is just that….but every once in awhile he lets me know I am trying his patience….big sigh!
A life where singing and dancing can break out at any moment and where paint brushes are conduits for expressing the Muses’ whispers sounds wonderful. I’m betting your husband feels pretty darn lucky to have a creative partner like you. Happy snowbirding.
Thanks Deborah! Sometimes I do wonder what he is thinking when I ‘break out’ into one of my dancing/singing moods, but he usually flashes me a smile and goes about his day!
Hi Debbie,
I can relate! I do that stuff all the time. My husband, however, would not stand nearly a minute of the internet unplugged. He would have definitely hooked it back up if I had forgotten it! Congratulations on your snowbird adventures. I am excited for us to do the same one of these days.
I was surprised my husband left it too! Guess he was trying to make a point…LOL! You will love being Snowbirds…it’s great fun…new people and places, the adventure awaits!
