We spent the past week at the Sequoia RV park in Three Rivers, CA.  We truly love this little park….especially the beautiful site on the  Kaweah river.

There’s Billy kicking back and enjoying our little piece of paradise!

Ground-squirrels

and then there were three

I so enjoyed watching the baby ground squirrels at play in the park

And a little history lesson…..

The Kaweah Post Office

Follow the above link and learn all about its 100 years of service and the utopian colony that built it.

Kaweah-PO-interiorInside you can see it is still an active little post office….run by volunteers!

Our next stop was the Sequoia National Park.  We were so lucky that the weather cooperated and we made it all the way up to about 7000 feet.  There we were able to see the General Sherman…one of the world’s largest trees

Yes….there was snow, but the temps were in the high 30’s

no way could I get the entire tree in my view finder

Standing before this….well….AWESOME!

A little snow family….looks up at the big tree

A view on our way up to see the General

It was breathtakingly beautiful.

The winding road that took us up was so very scary at times…especially when you are navigating it in a large dually truck!  I was actually lucky enough to see a bear on our way up.. in the distance….he or she was big…so exciting

looking-up

A walk in the land of Giants….this is not the General, but another big Sequoia in the Giant Grove.  There are trails which allow you to be ‘up close and personal’ with the gentle giants who live there.

I feel so very blessed to live in this country

so diverse in both landscape and cultures

  1. I appreciate post offices, particularly the old ones with history.

I just read a book about Yellowstone National Park–review is up!

  2. I’m just back from spending time with friends on Vancouver Island and they were so excited about a trip they’d made. They went to see “Big Lonely Doug” which is Canada’s second largest Douglas Fir. Difficult to find as apparently the signage isn’t that good however they managed it. You simply must put that on your bucket list!
Love your photos, Debbie. So very clear. And the snowmen! Incredible to see snow – it’s sweltering hot up here in Vancouver today.

    1. I will definitely add that to our bucket list! Yes, it was refreshing up their in that thin, cool air. It felt so clean and crisp. Thanks for the tip on “Big Lonely Doug” and if we make it out there I’ll be sure and let ya know!

  3. We took a camping trip through the North Coast at the end of summer last year. It is such a breath-taking, spiritual, jaw-dropping beautiful part of our state. Thank you for the refresher!

  4. Bill and I did visit that park when we were visiting his daughter in Bakersfield. I had been dreaming of seeing of since childhood. I love when you take us on your adventures.

    1. You are so welcome Amy! Everyone should see this…..it is amazing, awe inspiring, and a very humbling experience. One I shall never forget.

  5. What fabulous photos – and what a fabulous-sounding adventure. I remember that windy scary path with great clarity – it must have been all the holding-my-breath I did! I can’t imagine doing it in a big truck – you get extra sparkle points for that. The sequoias are simply awesome – I don’t think you can be in their presence and not be changed. The Kaweah Post Office story is so heart-warming – what an incredible piece of history.
