Here is sweet Rosie…..part 2
Slow progress….that’s what “life in the sun” brings I guess. The weather here in Yuma has just been fabulous. Hard to stay at the easel with all that sunshine. Little Rosie…..such an intend stare for such a little puppy! The world is all new to her….everything and everyone is new and exciting. How lucky I was to capture this moment of ‘stillness’. The photo on the left is my reference photo…painting on the right. Building the layers with thin washes of color, striving to achieve that look of smooth, shiny fur especially in the black sections.
A closer look at the details…..the fur on the right is starting to come together and I’m pretty happy with the shapes inside the ears. The eyes….not quite where I want them yet. I really want to capture that intensity so I’m playing with lighter highlights and darker shadows. I will not put that ‘twinkle’ in the eye until I’m satisfied with everything else. Overall I’m happy with where this painting is headed and I’m loving that bright background.
Still working on my e-courses for both watercolor and acrylic. I’ve decided to use woo commerce and their new plugin sensei for the e-course. You many notice some changes here in the the upcoming week as I add woo commerce to my website. Hopefully things will not get too wonky during the install and setup.
I have also added a few new pages for my custom pet portraits. You can find out about my process, pricing, and some tips on photography here. As Always….thanks so much for stopping by…..
Thanks for telling us which is the photo and which is the painting, it was hard to tell! Hahah, what a wonderful painting for a wonderful puppy! 🙂
Thank you Lily!
This is absolutely gorgeous! I am excited to see when you put in the ‘twinkle’ in his eye.
Thank you Elda! I promise….that ‘twinkle’ is coming soon…LOL!
Debbie, I always love seeing your paintings in progress. Your finished work has such detail, and so much love in each stroke of fur. It does my artist’s heart good to see that you reach that place of detailed beauty in stages, just like the rest of us. 😉 Off to go check out your pet photography tips!
Thanks Harmony! I hope you found the photography tips helpful! I love your comment about ‘reaching that place of detailed beauty in stages’. I have found that to be the hardest thing to ‘teach’ to my students….perseverance….to stick with the painting until the end… through all the ‘ugly’ until the ‘beauty’ unfolds!
Oh those ears! You’ve captured them perfectly. You are beyond talented Debbie. Looking forward to seeing “more” of Rosie.
Why thank you Kelly…..such a nice compliment! Ears can be a bit of a challenge sometimes…all those twist and turns!
Always a treat to see works in progress from you. Rosie is adorable.
Isn’t she though….and growing so fast and so smart! Just love that little girl. Thanks for stopping by!
He is on his way to being a great painting… looking fantastic. I’m very interested to hear how switching over to woo commerce and sensei works out for you too. Keep us posted.
Thanks Sue and I will let you know how it all plays out…..
It’s such fun to see your works-in-progress and Rosie is looking sweet indeed!
Thank you Deborah!
