Pet Portrait….Elby

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.9.4″ hover_enabled=”0″ background_color=”#F5F3F2″ sticky_enabled=”0″][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”16px|0px|19px|0px|false|false”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ text_font=”||||||||” text_font_size=”25px”]The second portrait in my series of four 8×8 acrylic paintings on gessobord is complete!  The most challenging part of this little gal was definitely her hair.  I don’t think I have ever painted a pet that had hair growing in so many different directions!  The second challenge was her person’s hand…see it there in the reference photo supporting her head.  Its been a long time since I painted anything remotely human…LOL!  Finding the right skin tones took a bit of experimentation.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”42px|0px|49px|0px|false|false” column_structure=”1_2,1_2″][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://goodestudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Elby-600.jpg” align_tablet=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”3.23″ border_width_all=”5px” box_shadow_style=”preset2″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://goodestudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Elby-Ref300.jpg” align=”center” align_tablet=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”3.23″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”26px|0px|13px|0px|false|false”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ text_font=”||||||||” text_font_size=”25px”]I needed to do something a bit different with Elby’s portrait.  The reference photo I was working from (as you can see above on the right) had a lot of background clutter which needed to be eliminated.  Then there was the ‘pose’ itself….a bit distorted because of the angle in which the photo was taken.  I love the work of Marina Dieul.  She does whimsical portraits of animals poking their heads out of matts.  Adding a matt, took care of all the background issues and made the ‘pose’ work perfectly!  I’m very happy with how it turned out!  Now, I won’t be doing a lot of that (adding a matt) because that is Marina Dieul’s thing.  That is her style and she is well known for it, but in this particular case it was just the perfect fit for this portrait.
