We are currently in Fort Stockton, Texas! I had hoped I would have a little more progress on the Raven to share with y’all, but I ended up coming down with a bit of a stomach bug. I’m feeling better and thought I would share some of the great photos I took at the Baton Rouge Zoo. It was a small zoo, but I practically had the whole place to myself!
I always try to be at the zoo when it opens because the animals are so much more active in the morning! This guy was having his morning dip!
I love how this photo turned out….shooting into water is always a bit of surprise! I would like to try and paint this someday in the future keeping the background more abstract, but bringing the fish out with a bit more realism and clarity.
I turned a corner and came almost face to face with this little guy….think he could stuff anymore in there?
I think he was just as curious about me as I was about him or her. I love all the texture and color, coupled with the soft white feathers.
Of course, I love me some flamingos. So pretty to see the reflections glimmer off the water…..
The zoo is a good place to see critters you’re not likely to encounter otherwise. I always feel a little sad that they are confined. And, they often seem bored or lethargic; perhaps going earlier in the day would be better, as you suggested. Just have to remember that often they are rescue cases that wouldn’t survive on their own in the wild.
Get well soon, and do share your painting progress.
I do agree….I hate to see any animal in captivity, but most of the zoos of today do a much better job of providing and caring for them. If you do go and go early….I think you will be amazed at their playfulness!
These are so delightful!!! So, I need to remember this idea of getting there early in the morning. Such BEAUTIFUL photos!
Yes….early is best! Not only are the animals more active, but many times you will have the place almost to your self!
I love your photos! Do you have a really cool camera? I’m particularly mad about squirrels so anytime you want to take a picture of one I’ll be a big fan. Thank you Debbie. We can wait til your feeling better for the raven. Love to you Sicky. Take it easy.
Thanks Kimberly for your comment and well wishes! I’m all better now and I’ll be on the look out for more squirrels to share! I adore them.
That koi would make a gorgeous painting! As always, I eagerly anticipate whatever you create. 🙂
So many things to paint…..so little time….sometimes it is just too overwhelming!
Oh what fabulous photos Debbie! I love them all, but I think the backview of the flamingo is my fave. A little boho feathery disarray. I’m rather fascinated with flamingos as well. How can you not love pink birds?!
Indeed…..pink birds are awesome!
Oh, my kids love the zoo, we have a yearly pass. For some reason my pictures never turn out quite as good as yours 😉
Thank you! I’m only as good as my camera….LOL! Thanks to my hubby, I have a very good one!
