I decided to take part in a virtual blog tour that Naomi Shabot Wittlin over at Poetic Aperture introduced me too. We all answer four questions about our creative process and then list 3 more bloggers answering the same 4 questions on their blogs the following week. Here are the questions and my answers.
1. What am I working on?
I’m currently working on a pet portrait….I’m sure many of you know of Buster as I have been posting my progress here on my blog. I’m also in the process of writing a book on beginning acrylic painting and an e-course.
2. How does my work differ from others of its type?
I ‘connect’! I have always felt a deep connection to animals….even when I was very young, I was always drawn to critters of all kinds. When I paint…I bring that ‘connection’ to life in the animals expression and emotion.
3. Why do I write or create what I do?
That is easy. I paint because it brings me great joy. I consider myself a ‘moment capturer’…..a moment…frozen in time….for all to enjoy. I especially love the details…those tiny eyelashes, that itty bitty water droplet at the corner of the mouth. I try to ‘reward’ folks when they come in for a closer look at my work….that’s when all those details come to life!
4. How does my creative process work?
My creative process…well, it can be rather quirky…like me! Whenever possible, I use my own photos for reference…photography is another passion of mine. I’m attracted to light, color, and textures in nature. Always looking for the emotions the animals will show me. That’s what inspires me to pick up my paint brush. Once I decide on a subject matter I have to ‘ponder’ it for a few days. Playing with composition, color and light in my mind. Many times I’ll awake in the morning and know exactly how the painting needs to be….then I’m off to my artist easel.
Now this is where I’m supposed to list the next bloggers to take up the virtual blog tour. Sadly I was unable to find 3 people willing to participate. BUT….I see no reason why I can share with you a few of my favorite creative blog sites. They may not be participating in this blog challenge, but they still have wonderful insights and inspiring stories to share!
Harmony with Animals Harmony also has a deep connection with animals….and her writing style and artistry are full of love and laughter.
Kelly McKenzie Kelly is an accomplished writer and will most certainly bring a smile to your face as you read about her family’s every day mishaps and accomplishments!
Marcie Scudder Marcie pairs her beautiful photography with her moving and inspirational poems
Please drop by their blogs and if you are so inclined leave them a comment…..I”m sure they would love to hear from you!
Just following my Bliss, Naomi….
I love how you mention doing things for the joy they bring.
Debbie, I love the fine detail in your artwork. I can’t wait until I can see some of it in person so I can dive deeply into it and get rewarded. You do indeed capture the moment with the animal portraits. I feel like you really express their souls.
I’m looking forward to your book on acrylic painting. Your techniques are very different from the ones I’m learning. Can’t wait to learn from you!
Thanks for listing my blog, Harmony with Animals. I know that I’m in great company with you, Kelly McKenzie, and Marcie Scudder — all fabulous bloggers with great art, laughter, wisdom and beauty to share with the world. ♥
Your Welcome Harmony….I love reading about your adventures and seeing your artwork come to life! Glad you are looking forward to the book….I hope it lives up to your expectations! LOL!
Aw – thanks for including me here Debbie. I am really looking forward to your Buster update. He is already living and breathing to me so it’ll be wonderful to see your updated connection.
Your Welcome, Kelly. I so love the way you ‘tell a story’ always makes me smile!
Love how you connect with the animals you’re painting – that’s what makes them insights, more than paint and canvas. And, I know the feeling of waking up in the morning with a message about what needs to be done.
Thanks Linda…it has taken me a few years to ‘get it’ but I think I have finally ‘tuned’ in to my painting process and love the results.
