Blog Challenge….20 post in 31 days….

Currently on Day 9 and I have already run out of ideas!

What on earth was I thinking…..

I was going through all my photos this am….trying to find something that would ‘spark’ a blog topic when I found this…..

Flamingo-PurseDid you know I sew?  Well…I do and this is one of my creations.  It is my Flamingo Purse and my attempt at a little mix media art.  I had forgotten all about this….I did it a few years ago and I actually sold it through my Etsy Shop.  Yes, I have an Etsy shop, but no point in rushing over there (lol) nothing there at present.

The purse was to be the first of many….I was going to design a line of  ‘Goodebags’ and sell them on Etsy.  It seemed I was off to a good start…BUT…that purse was so labor intensive that I soon realized I was only making pennies for my time.  I think I charged $60 for the purse….which to me is a lot of money for a purse.  What I realize now is that this is unique….one of a kind….and an Art form in its own right.  I really enjoyed making this purse and it is something I want to resurrect!   I think I’m going to downsize though…..do smaller purses….but just as detailed…cause as you know by now….for me, it is ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS!

Close-up-flamingo-purseThis bag is made of a rather unique material.  Some of you may recognize the material as the same “green curtain” I hung on my back window.  The green material is actually a woven plastic used as ‘shade fabric’ mainly in the rv industry.   The little holes make it perfect for adding hand stitching and embellishments.  The first thing I did was to create a little painting of the flamingo on white cotton.  I then attached it to my purse using a blanket stitch and added buttons and beads and some ribbon work.

I’d love to hear what ya think about this…..and my idea of ‘Goodebags’!
