Watercolor Paper Prep

Here is a short video on how I prepare my 140lb watercolor paper for painting. There are many ways of preparing your watercolor paper, this is but one.  The reason we prepare watercolor paper in this manner is to reduce the buckling of the paper as we apply our painting washes. This is also referred to as ‘stretching’ or ‘sizing’ the paper.   The supplies used in the video are Gatorboard, 140lb watercolor paper, Sterling Edwards Large Bristle brush, painter’s tape, clean water
