Here is the latest Pip installment….

Pip-2 I’m fairly satisfied with the background area.  I don’t go into a lot of detail….because little Pip is the ‘star’ of the show!  At this stage I’m simply looking for the ‘shapes’ of color and the direction of the hair growth and texture (such as the pebble texture on the nose).

Pop-Close-up

A little closer view of Pip….I know he looks as though he has a big black eye on the right, but trust me it will come together!

Now I promised some big news….at least it is ‘big’ to me!  I managed to put together my very first video.  Many of you know I’m wanting to add e-courses here to my web site and it is very important to me to be able to incorporate videos into those e-courses.  There was a bit of a learning curve involved and this one is a little rough around the edges, but I am and will improve.  Still I feel pretty proud of this accomplishment!  To make this happen I had to learn how to tether my camera to my laptop.  The reason…so that I could see what the viewer sees and make sure it all was in focus and so that I had remote access to my cameras controls.   My next step was learning how to do voice overs and edit my video in my  Imovie application.  Finally, I needed to figure out how to embed the video into my blog!

This is a very short video on how I take my drawing and place it on my painting surface.  Have a look and be sure and leave me a comment……

  1. Hi! I feel as if we’ve just met. Hearing your voice is wonderful. And I agree with Debbie that it’s really soothing and calming. This is just the coolest to watch you soar like this. Huge accomplishment to be able to lash the camera onto the laptop and then film etc. And embed! I’m really just so excited for you. Can you tell? :))
Also loved reading Peggy’s comment above. Hope we get to learn her daughter Kristi’s reaction when Pip is revealed!

    1. Yes the excitement is building here too and Peggy is a real sweetheart! I’m sure she will share her daughter’s reaction with us here or I will pass it along…..it won’t be long now!

  2. Great job with the video! I always wondered if an artist sketched directly onto the canvas or not, so thank you for clearing that up! And the painting looks great!

    1. Thank you Terri! I have never liked sketching directly on my painting surface, but some artist do. I like doing my sketch on the tracing paper because it is easier to remove the graphite and make corrections. I’ve also found that the “transfer” of the sketch onto the painting surface doesn’t smear when I start to paint. I use a soft lead pencil for sketching and so there sometimes is quite a bit of ‘graphite dust’.

  3. Video came out great. I have never used a stylus before to transfer. Is there an advantage over using a ball point? Love hearing your voice. So soothing as you are going through the steps. Looking forward to more videos. Cheers to you.

    1. Thanks Debbie. As to the stylus, I really don’t know if there is a big advantage. I do like that I’m not adding any more ‘lines’ to my sketch, but it does sometimes make it difficult to know how much I have done.

  4. This is so exciting to see our Pip come to life in the painting. He’s such a wonderful Grand-dog. What a surprise this will be for our daughter Kristi. I’m not able to access the video at this time. We are RVing & things are sketchy at best. Oh Debbie this is going to be so perfect. So looking forward to the finished Pip.

    1. Thank you, Peggy. I’m so glad you are happy with what you see so far. I have really enjoyed painting Pip, those big eyes staring back at me….we have had quite a few interesting conversations….LOL!

  5. So fun to see the next installment of Pip. And yay you for mastering the video learning curve. It really is wonderful to hear your voice and watch you demonstrate your work.

    1. Thanks Deborah! It was a challenge, but I sure enjoyed it. Seeing it all come together in the end was very rewarding too.

    1. Thank you, Kimberly! I’m glad you are enjoying the process…I”m always afraid I’m boring everyone to tears! LOL!

  6. Super sweet, Debbie! I love Pip. He is such a cutie! Great video, too. It is neat to hear your voice and see how you make your beautiful paintings.
